ArONL Welcomes Stephanie Schmittou to the Board of Directors

Stephanie Schmittou is the Chief Nursing Officer at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Magnolia, AR. She obtained her Associates degree in nursing in 2000 from Southern Arkansas University and has worked many roles as a nurse but her favorite is working in the emergency nurse role. She is a strong advocate of nurses pursuing higher education and has done so by completing her BSN in 2006 at Southern Arkansas University and her MSN in 2017 at Walden University.

Mentoring and leading others has always been a passion. Stephanie has served as adjunct nursing faculty at Southern Arkansas University and continues to assist with teaching others today within her facility.

In 2017, she was named as the CNO of her hometown hospital. She has learned that nursing management is fundamental to providing quality care and building strong nurse teams. Nurses must trust their leadership and leaders must work alongside their team members to achieve the best outcomes. Healthcare changes requires Stephanie to keep an open mind and choose creative ways to ensure staff and patients are cared for at all times. Stephanie has found that establishing a nursing leadership team at her facility provides strength and wisdom for her directors and herself during staff shortages and high census needs.

Stephanie is a wife and mother of two children. She is the “fur momma” to five cats and two dogs. Many tease her that she should have been a vet instead of a nurse, for she loves every stray animal!  She enjoys camping and working in the flower beds.  She spends a lot of time being a dance mom to her 11year old daughter who travels the states competing in seven genres of dance.  Many would say she is the smile in the room and can always be counted on for a good laugh.

Baxter Regional Medical Center is doing great work on their journey to become a Magnet designated hospital. See their abstract from a recent Replication Study here.
